Description 

Belém is the economic center of the northern region and capital of the mineral rich state of Pará. One of the rainiest cities in the world, it has a "less wet"season from July to December. But this not as bad as it sounds. Rain often comes and goes quickly and is a brief respite from the equatorial heat. Belém is 120km from the Atlantic ocean and it has the biggest port on the Amazon river. From Belém, you set sail for any place that is navigable on the Amazon and its tributaries. At the Ver O Peso market and port, there is not much for a tourist to buy . Yet , the display of fruit, vegetables, plants, animals and fish, not to mention the people, is fascinating. The most intriguing section is filled with medicinal herbs and roots, dead snakes and amulets for every possible occasion. There are interesting museums, and a zoo with manatees, jungle cats, alligators, snakes, monkeys and many amazonian birds.

Tour 5 :Half-day visit to the EMBRAPA-Brazilian Institute for Research in Agriculture and Cattle breeding in the humid tropic region- with its plantations of palm trees, brazil nut trees, rubber trees, black pepper, guarana and an experimental buffalo ranch.

Tour 6 : Half-day visit to Icoaracy, the potters'village located 25km from Belém. Possibility to watch the manufacturing of the potteries and buy products at reduced fare.

Tour 7 : Full-day tour to the "bucolic island"as Mosqueiro is known. After a 80min. drive, passing on the 1,5km long Sebastião de Oliveira bridge.On the north side of the island one can have a panoramic view of the Marajó bay. Lunch included (no beverages). Time for swimming and sunbathing at one of the 16 beaches of Mosqueiro.

Tour 12  Before sunrise navigation to reach Parrots island.As the sun appears, thousand of parrots and other birds leave the island in a wonderful sight. After you witness this scene, breakfast is served onboard.Then the tour continue with a boat trip which includes ride through the "furos"(narrow channels) and "igarapes"(small creeks).Opportunity to see native people riding canoes, fishing and selling local products in their stilt houses. Depending on the tide, the tour will continue further into the creek, where one can get a close view of the jungle and its wildlife ,riding motorized canoes.The tour also includes jungle walk to visit the gentle "caboclos"(brazilian half-breed of white and indian) working their craft, and also see tropical trees such as cocoa,Brazil nut tree and rubber tree.

Tour 15  Regional folklore show performed at a restaurant . While the show is on, dinner is served (no beverages)

Tour 16  Trekking tour: Before sunrise, departure by boat crossing the Guamá river up to the place called Boa Vista. Disembark and trekking. Full-day exploring the jungle to observe wildlife and visit "caboclos"communities where cocoa and cassava plantations, latex extraction, fishing , hunting and making cassava flour are part of the subsistance way of life. Possibility to see animals like monkeys and birds in their natural habitat and also trees of different sizes and species, plants and medicinal herbs. In the dense and heterogenous amazon forest, one can find various trails and crossing of creeks. Lunch en route near the Genipaúba creek. In the middle of the afternoon, after 17km walk , arrival at Burajuba on the Acará river. Time free for rest or swimming. Return by boat to Belém. Opportunity to witness the sunset. The guide for this tour is experienced and gives full explainations about the environment and local inhabitants. Participants must be in good physical conditions. Trekking operates only from July to December .

Tour 18  3 days/2 nights excursion on the still wild island of Cotijuba. Located at approx. 30km from Belém, the island is surrounded by several beaches, on the Marajó bay, cutted by stripes of rocks and forest. The mainland is covered by tropical rain forest where one can have walks, birdwatching, discovering of local flora and life of the dwellers. Lodging in full-board accomodations at Pousada Trilha Dourada, in native style bungalows (very basic- no airconditioning.,no private bathroom, no energy after dinner time). The Pousada is located at Praia Funda beach, completely integrated to the local landscape. During two days several programs will be done such as jungle walks, wild life observation, tour by boat on the Pirí creek, visit to the ruins of the old penitentiary, visit to the village and São francisco church.
