Description

The Iguassu Falls are an unforgettable spectacle being one of the largest group of falls in the world. They are located on the border between Argentina and Brazil, and the city of Foz do Iguassu borders with Paraguay.  The falls have the shape of a horseshoe, are 2,7 km wide and 72 meters high. The number of falls vary from 150 to 275, depending on the amount of rain in the area. The falls are surrounded by a National Park with one of the best preserved native forests in the country.  Located north of the city is Itaipu, the largest hydroelectric dam of its type in the world and impressive for its size, also worth a visit.

Activities

Visiting the Falls is the highlight of your trip. You can walk along the raised walkways to the edge of the falls to have amazing views and take great pictures, go on a boat trip that will take you to the base of the falls and fly in a helicopter to appreciate the falls from the top. You can also visit the Itaipu Dam and enjoy the nightlife in Foz. Adventure Sports such as Rappel and Rafting in the Falls are also available.

Information - Iguassu Falls Local Tours

Tour 1 - Brazilian Falls Tour (half-day) - This tour shows the size and magnificence of the falls. Leaving your Hotel, you will enter the Iguassu National Park. Drive along the Cataratas Highway through the rainforest of the park to the falls, on the border of Brazil and Argentina where the Iguassu River drops into a giant horseshoe canyon. Descending a walkway, contemplate the lovely waterfalls in all of nature's exuberance, with panoramic views of both sides - Brazilian and Argentinean. Reaching the elevator, a descent into the Brazilian side lookout. Excellent for pictures of the whole of the falls                


Tour 2 - Argentina Falls Tour (half-day) - Departure from the hotel, after a short drive and quick check, crossing of the Tancredo Neves Bridge over the Iguassu River, which forms the border between Argentina and Brazil. Once in Argentina, tour takes a scenic highway up to the Argentinean Iguassu Park. In the park you will board a small train that takes you to the beginning of the walkways.  You will then walk along the upper Argentine falls, seeing the falls from different angles, including the "Devil's Throat", with one of the closest views of the falls. On the way back from the falls, tour stops at the Argentinean shopping district, and if weather and time allows, a brief stop at the 3-borders point, where Parana and Iguassu rivers as well as borders of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay meet.

Tour 3 - 1/2 day Itaipu Dam Tour (3 hours) - Itaipu is the world's largest hydroelectric power plant and a technological wonder. Tour will first pass through downtown Foz do Iguassu. After a 35-km ride, arrival at the Itaipu Public Relations Center, for a 30-minute presentation showing the phases of construction and operation of this engineering monument. After this visit, tour the dam by bus and stop at panoramic overlooks. The spectacle of the spillway of the dam, with its huge flow of water is particularly impressive.

Tour 4  - Half-day- Boat ride to the Bottom of the Falls- you will board a twin-engine boat  specially designed for this river's condition. Cruise up into the Iguassu Canyon, shooting several rapids and arrive at the base of the majestic waterfalls. As the experienced pilot maneuvers in the midst of the falls, you will have a different view of the falls and experience a thrill never to be forgotten. Everyone in the boat gets soaked from the spray of the falls.

Tour 5 - Rafting in the Iguassu River: Itīs a light rafting and even people with no experience can participate on this adventure.  

 

Tour 6 - 1/2 day tour to the Butterfly and Bird Park to see the beautiful birds of the area. An opportunity to see the birds of the park at a close distance, in a careful planned ambient, reproducing their natural habitat.

 

Tour 7 - Dinner and Latin Show at a typical brazilian barbecue restaurant. While eating a traditional brazilian barbecue at a "churrascaria" (all you can eat barbecue restaurant), you will watch a performance showing the samba danced by "mulatas", capoeira and other typical dances and music of South America.

 

Tour 8 - Tour by Flying Trike. You will fly with an instructor, to experience the adventure of a lifetime. The flight is over the Itaipu Lake and it lasts from 10 to 30 minutes. You can also fly over the Itaipu Dam.

 

Tour 9 - Helicopter Tour- a flight over the falls to see its magnificence and power.
